Training on paper or cardboard targets has its place, but you need something to make the exercise more realistic. You need the target to react. When you first look at the front of the PT Dropper, all you see is your cardboard or paper target. If you don't hit that target in the right place, all you get is a little hole. If you do hit the target in the right place, it will drop forward and out of sight.

What you don't see at the beginning of the exercise is the 8inch 500 Brinell steel plate positioned behind the intended hit zone of the paper or cardboard target. When the steel plate is hit, it will fall backwards slightly and release the cardboard target that then falls forward and disappears.

The position of the cardboard target's intended hit zone can be adjusted in relation to the steel plate for either center mass or failure drill options. The PT Dropper is a perfect tool to condition your officers to make good decisions and shoot accurately, to engage the threat until the problem is solved, and to change tactics if what they are doing is not working.

  • Is the target head adjustable?: The steel target head is placed at 5’ and is not adjustable. You can adjust where the target head is in conjunction with the desired hit zone by moving the paper or cardboard target up or down.

    Is the PT Dropper rifle rated?: The PT Dropper is generally designed for handgun use only. The reactive mechanism of the target is engineered to function best with the velocity of a handgun round. Because the target must be reset after each use, shooting it with a rifle from 100 yards may also be inconvenient.

    What size paper or cardboard target can I use with the PT Dropper?: Any size paper or cardboard target can be used as long as it can be attached to the 1” x 2” strips of wood.

    Does the PT Dropper come with a paper target and 1” x 2” strips of wood?: No. Paper and cardboard targets as well as the 1” x 2” wood strips must be purchased separately. We recommend purchasing these targets from Law Enforcement Targets. 1” x 2” wood strips can be purchased at any major hardware or lumber store. We recommend using 4’ strips to attach your target to.
